What are fungal skin infections?1

Fungal skin infections are common skin conditions caused by fungi that grow and multiply on the skin. These infections are more likely to develop in warm, moist areas of the body such as the feet, groin, and skin folds. Common types include athlete's foot, ringworm, and jock itch. Symptoms can vary, but may include redness, itching, flaking, irritation, or a scaly rash.

Fungal skin infections are usually spread through direct contact with infected skin, shared items, or damp surfaces such as gym floors and locker rooms. While they are generally not serious, they can be uncomfortable if left untreated. Most cases can be treated effectively with antifungal creams or medications and prevented by keeping the skin clean and dry.

How to prevent tinea?2

Clonea
To help prevent tinea, it's important to dry the skin thoroughly after showering, especially between the toes and within skin folds. Wearing breathable clothing and cotton socks, avoiding sharing towels or shoes, and wearing thongs or sandals in communal showers and pools can also help lower the risk. Managing excessive sweating and regularly changing damp clothing or socks may further help prevent fungal growth.
