MULTIPLE PACKS
Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION

Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

Saved us!
After struggling with breastfeeding in my baby's first couple of days, a midwife recommended Medela nipple shields. Worked effectively, were a strong fit and are good quality. My baby is 8 wks and we still use them when she is struggling to latch. Wouldn't have been able to continue feeding from the early days without them.

Nipple Shields to the rescue!
I just had my first baby in July 2021 and hadn't expected breastfeeding to be so painful and difficult. Baby was jaundiced and had trouble latching and feeding so there was a lot of damage and scarring on the nipples. In desperation, I got my husband to buy these Medela Nipple Shields from the Chemist and they made such a huge difference in pain-free breastfeeding and allowed my nipples to heal until baby had a better latch. Highly recommend for first time mums who plan on breastfeeding but are having a hard time persevering through the pain!

Great breastfeeding tool
This is a fantastic tool for those that may be struggling with bub to latch at the start of their breastfeeding journey. It’s also great in helping with nipple pain. The shields are easy to clean and come in a compact case for storage. The shields are thin and milk flows through them easily

Very helpful
Bub was preemie so he was having a hard time latching because of his small mouth. One of the NICU nurses taught me how to use the nipple shield. We have to mcgyver though and put some tapes around the shield to keep it in place. Then just like that, bub was able to latch beautifully and properly. So every time I try to breastfeed, I’ll use the nipple shield first so he can practice latching.
